Our Story

We have had the privilege of being firefighters with careers that brought amazing highs, deep lows and pressure, lots of pressure. We dealt with that pressure, sometimes better than others, but couldn’t tell you how, we just did.

But we believe that ‘just coping’ is too high a risk. Are you sure you’ll cope next time? And surely just coping when the pressure is on isn’t enough? Surely you want to thrive? To be able to meet the challenge head on and to be sure that you can execute the skills you have, in whatever field, to the maximum effect.

Discovering the Gazing Red2Blue system changed our view on mindset and performance. If you have always marvelled at the sports people who seem to deal with the match point or the penalty with such confidence, with the actor who delivers their live performance with consistent precision or the colleague who is the ‘unflappable one’ wouldn't it be good to understand if there was a secret to their approach? How do they deal with the pressure at the crucial moment?

The Gazing Red2Blue framework provides an answer, and it can support you and your teams too. Here at Response Coaching we understand that different environments bring different pressures, but ultimately those pressures give you the same options; do you embrace the challenge or do you walk away from it?

Hi, I'm Gavin

HI, I’m Gavin I’m a former Firefighter/Chief Fire Officer and after retiring from the Fire and Rescue Service I had an integral role in the UK response to the Covid pandemic. I’ve experienced pressure across my career and personal life and on reflection I probably wasn’t always at my best in those situations. I now realise that I didn’t understand the importance of mindset and how essential it is to see mindset as a skill.

I’ve learned that lesson and now I’m passionate about helping people, teams and organisations be the best they can be when the pressure is on.

Hi, I'm Peter

I’m a former firefighter, technology founder and global operations leader. My career has taken me through emergency response, entrepreneurship and international business operations, but the common thread has always been people, pressure and execution.

Across those different environments, I kept noticing the same missing piece. People can have the plan, the process and the technical skill. They can train hard and approach the job with real commitment, but when the pressure is on, there is still a human performance element that needs to be understood and developed.

That is what drew me to Red2Blue. It gave me a simple, practical way to understand that human performance element and help people develop mindset as a skill they can use when it matters.
